Comprehensive PsychOlOgical Assessment
Comprehensive Psychological Assessment:
A comprehensive psychological assessment helps you identify your abilities and needs by evaluating your skills in several areas of functioning, including cognitive, memory, academic achievement, executive functioning, adaptive behaviour, and social-emotional functioning. A diagnosis will be provided (if applicable).
1) Learning Profile Assessment: This type of assessment evaluates a person’s abilities in several areas of functioning and learning profile. It also enhances one’s understanding of strengths and needs and provides clinical and practice recommendations. The benefits of this assessment include self-awareness, diagnoses (if appropriate), and facilitating access to supports and services, including school and workplace accommodations.
The core components of the assessment include an examination of different aspects of learning, such as intellectual (verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed), visual motor, memory, receptive and expressive language, academics, executive functioning, and social/emotional/and behavioural functioning. Additional testing may be warranted depending on the individual's unique needs.
Each assessment will consist of a review of documentation, including the Assessment Group Intake form, clinical interviews with the individual and caregivers (when appropriate), the administration of standardized tests, feedback, and writing of a report. Each individual will have a feedback session, which will consist of a review of the results of testing, as well as recommendations for next steps. A final report will be provided to the individual.
2) Insurance and Mental Health Assessment:
A) Mental health assessments are available to any individuals experiencing psychological distress that are affecting their mental health and well-being. This type of evaluation aims to help the individual better understand their mental health struggles and provide recommendations to ensure the individual is receiving the appropriate care and treatment for their mental health conditions, psychological disorders, or symptoms.
B) Psychological assessments are available for insurance-related claims, such as WSIB. This type of assessment is typically conducted at the request of an insurance company's case manager. It is used to determine the psychological impact of a work-related injury or incident on a worker, confirm a diagnosis of a psychological injury, identify pre-existing mental health conditions that may be complicating the worker’s recovery, identify any work limitations or restrictions, provide treatment recommendations, and address the referral source questions.
The assessment encompasses a detailed clinical interview. It also includes a review of the individual's relevant mental health and medical history, presenting symptoms, and relevant psychosocial and/or environmental factors. It also includes various standardized tests to assess the individual’s cognitive and emotional functioning. A feedback session is provided, and the report is shared with the referral source.
