DevelOpmental Services OntarIO (DSO) Eligibility
Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) Eligibility Assessment:
A DSO assessment evaluates your cognitive and adaptive functioning to determine your eligibility for Developmental Services Ontario.
In 2011, the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services of Ontario introduced new eligibility requirements for adult developmental services. The Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act (2008) indicates that eligibility for developmental disability services requires that three criteria be met: cognitive criterion, adaptive criterion, and age criterion.
The Assessment Group provides eligibility assessments to Ontario residents, which include a review of background history, a clinical interview with the individual and caregiver/support staff, and standardized testing for cognitive and adaptive functioning. This form of assessment typically takes up to two hours and is available as an online assessment. A report is generated, and feedback is provided. The report will then be provided to the individual and forwarded to the DSO in the individual’s region, who will determine eligibility for services and support.
